Bartram's Garden, USA
Places of pilgrimage can be a challenge for the photographer. They’ve been shot so many times before, by so many eminent photographers that it can be an uphill struggle to put one’s own stamp on the site. Particularly on a day when there’s not a cloud in the sky and the heat is already unbearable at the crack of dawn. But Bartram’s Garden was an absolute joy to photograph. There are historic buildings, significant trees, borders overflowing with local flora determined to put on a show and a wonderfully relaxed, laid-back atmosphere to soak up. Sometimes walking in the footsteps of historical giants can be intimidating. Here, it was simply inspirational.
